What does a legal claim for admission mean?
A legal claim means that you have the right to be admitted to a specific master’s degree programme if:
- the programme is a direct extension of your bachelor’s degree
- you apply on time
- you have not previously used your legal claim
You can see which bachelor’s degree programme(s) grant a legal claim for admission to each of SDU’s master’s degree programmes on the individual master’s degree programme’s page about admission requirements.
How long is my legal claim for admission valid?
You have a legal claim for admission if you apply for admission within three years of earning your bachelor’s degree.
- If you graduate in June 2025, your legal claim will remain valid until September 2028, provided that the master’s degree programme starts in September.
- If you graduate in December 2025, your legal claim will remain valid until February 2029, provided that the master’s degree programme starts in February.
- If you graduate in December 2025 and the master’s degree programme only starts in September, your legal claim will remain valid until September 2029.
You must keep yourself informed of the admission deadline for the master’s degree programme and apply before the deadline.
How many times can I use my legal claim?
You can only use your legal claim once. When you are offered a place in the programme and accept, you have used your legal claim. This applies even if you later change your mind or drop out of the programme.
You cannot use your legal claim if:
- you apply after the application deadline.
- you apply for a vacant study place.
Will I lose my legal claim if I study a different master’s degree programme?
If you complete another master’s degree programme, you lose your legal claim for admission. This applies even if you earned your bachelor’s degree less than three years ago. If you enroll in a different master’s degree programme, but do not complete it, your legal claim for admission is still valid within the period specified above.
What should I remember if I have a legal claim?
- You must apply on time, but you do not need to submit extra documentation.
- You can apply to other master’s degree programmes – but you are only guaranteed admission to the programme you have a legal claim for.
- You can put the master’s degree programme you have a legal claim for as your second or third priority when you apply. This ensures that you will be able to continue in a master’s degree programme.
