In this workshop about sound and frequencies, students are introduced to a “secret” audio file that is masked by noise.
In this workshop about sound and frequencies, students are introduced to a “secret” audio file that is masked by noise. The course gives students the theoretical and practical knowledge to filter out the noise and bring out the hidden message.
A special teaching material has been created for the workshop that describes the mathematical and theoretical relationship between frequencies and filters. The practical part of the workshop consists of students constructing a sound filter consisting of a PCB (printed circuit board), components and soldering. This takes place in our electronic laboratory.
Learning objectives
- Second-order low-pass filter
- Second-order differential equations
- Sound signals as Fourier series
- Use of various mathematics programs
The exact date will be determined in consultation with you. However, it is crucial to find a time when our students are ready to hold the workshop for you. We always do our best to accommodate your date preferences.
The duration of the workshop is between 4-6 hours - let us know what your needs are, and we'll adjust the workshop.
Prerequisites for the workshop
- Mathematics at A or B level
- Knowledge of and access to an advanced mathematics program such as Maple, Matlab, or TI-Nspire
We hope that you, as the teacher, will actively participate on the day and help the instructors facilitate exercises and dialogue with the class. We also hope you will support the final evaluation so that we can continuously improve our programme.
Price
The activity itself is free. However, we charge a transport fee if we have to visit you outside the Region of Southern Denmark. If you come to us, you are responsible for your own transport expenses.
