Gry Hvass Pedersen

Gry Hvass Pedersen is a PhD researcher at the Centre for Contemporary Middle East Studies, University of Southern Denmark. She holds a BA in History from Aarhus University and an MA in Middle East Studies from the University of Southern Denmark. She has been working as an intern for the Danish Jordanian University Cooperation in Amman Jordan (2010) and for Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (ActionaAid Denmark) in Damascus (2010-2011). For 6 months in 2013, she was project leader for DJUCO at the University of Southern Denmark and frequently visited Amman. In her PhD project Modernity, Islamic Traditions and Higher Education: Visions of Modern Islamic Universities and Students’ Muslim Selfhood in Asia, she explores the ways in which global discourses on higher education are actualized at the institutional and individual level in particular, local Muslim contexts and what role religion possibly plays in these processes.
