Dr. María Bustelo, Accredited Full Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), she currently is the director of the Women & Science Unit at the Spanish Ministries of Science, Innovation & Universities.
At the UCM she has been the director of the Master on Evaluation of Programmes and Public Policies at the Complutense University of Madrid since 2002 and the co-director of the Excellence Research Group GEYPO “Gender & Politics”. She was Delegate of the UCM Rector for Equality (2015-2019), and President of the European Evaluation Society 2012-2013.
Leader of several National and European research projects, she was the European coordinator of the Horizon 2020 SUPERA project (Supporting the Promotion of Equality in Research and Academia), and led the UCM team the UniSAFE Consortium (Making Universities and Research Organisations Safe from Gender-Based Violence, 2021-2024). Other European research projects she has led include, on gender equality policies include MAGEEQ (2003-2005, FP5) and QUING (2006-2011, FP6), and on structural change at universities as GENOVATE (2013-2016, FP7).
She integrated the UNWomen Global Evaluation Committee (GEAC) from 2014 to 2019 and the Expert Group on Gender Training at the UN Women Training Centre. She was part of the High Level Expert Group in charge of the FP7 ex-post evaluation, and the Expert Group in charge of the Interim Evaluation as a crosscutting issue in Horizon 2020, at DG Research (European Commission). Her lines of research are gender equality policies in science and higher education and public policy evaluation and has several publications on gender policies, evaluation theory and methodology, and evaluation from a gender perspective.
