Research in mathematics and quantum physics is honored with the Inge Lehmann grant of 3,162,672 DKK
Kristin (Courtney) Gabe, Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, has received the highly esteemed Inge Lehmann grant from the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
The grant recognizes her advanced research in the field of operator algebras, a branch of theoretical mathematics with strong ties to quantum physics.

Kristin’s project focuses on infinite-dimensional operator algebras, which allow for precise modeling of complex phenomena that finite-dimensional methods cannot fully capture. While students encounter finite-dimensional operator algebras in early mathematics courses, Kristin’s work examines the infinitely complex structures necessary for a deeper understanding of various phenomena.
Her recent discoveries involve constructing these algebras using sequences of increasingly large matrices linked via quantum channels. This approach opens new avenues for studying and understanding these abstract infinite-dimensional objects, offering a fresh perspective in the field.
