Natural Science Research – Interdisciplinary Strength
At the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, we contribute to solving some of society’s greatest challenges within energy, environment, health, and sustainability. We succeed because we build bridges between disciplines and transcend traditional boundaries. Our interdisciplinary mindset is not only a fundamental condition, but also our strength. And it is a strength that ensures our research and education are recognized both nationally and internationally.
Our vision is to create and apply knowledge across the natural sciences. We are unique in housing research within physics, chemistry, and pharmacy under one department, which provides excellent opportunities to explore the intersections between these disciplines.
But we go further. At SDU, we collaborate with researchers from IMADA (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) to advance fields towards digital transformation. We work with IGT (Department of Green Technology) and MMI (Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute) to harness the potential at the intersection of research and technological application. We also collaborate with researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences to integrate health-related perspectives.
An Inspiring and Inclusive Environment
Our environments for research, education, and administration are characterized by being inspiring and inclusive. This is expressed through curiosity, critical thinking, and close collaboration. We believe this forms the best foundation for both professional and personal development.
Our researchers, students, and technical-administrative staff are the department’s most important resources - and together we achieve our vision.
21st Century Skills: Students with Strong and Relevant Competencies
The department offers bachelor’s programs in physics, chemistry, and pharmacy, as well as master’s programs in physics, chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacy. We are aware that when students choose us, they place their future - and thereby society’s future in areas such as technological development and green transitioning our hands. Therefore, we prioritize providing the best possible education by attracting highly qualified researchers and lecturers from both Denmark and abroad. We listen to society and adapt our programs to the realities of today and the challenges of tomorrow.
The quality of our programs and the students’ experience working in interdisciplinary research groups make them highly sought-after employees in industry, government agencies, and knowledge and research institutions. Our graduates have an unemployment rate close to zero.
Collaboration with External Partners and Local Businesses
It is important for us to continue hosting new start-ups and companies, while also prioritizing collaborations with businesses, educational institutions, and other external partners.
