Evaluations of study progress

At three points during the period of study, the PhD student must, together with the principal supervisor, prepare evaluations of study progress and submit them to the doctoral school administration. An evaluation is a reporting of the tasks that the PhD student must complete (coursework, dissemination and change of environment), but it must also account for the status of the project. The first evaluation must be approved after the second semester, the second one after the fourth semester and the last one after the fifth semester. After the sixth semester, the principal supervisor submits an evaluation of whether the overall PhD programme has been satisfactorily completed.

The first evaluation consists of a meeting with the head of the doctoral school. The student will be invited to this meeting after 11-12 months of study. Prior to the meeting, the student must complete and submit the form below to the principal supervisor. The supervisor writes a detailed statement about the status of the project in relation to the PhD plan and sends it to the doctoral school administration with a copy to the PhD student. The student has two weeks to submit any comments on the principal supervisor's statement.

After the first year of study, the student is expected to have accumulated 10-15 ECTS credits and fulfilled part of the dissemination obligation. There must also be concrete plans for a change of environment.

The second evaluation also consists of a meeting with the head of the doctoral school. The student will be invited to the meeting after 23-24 months. The student must again report ECTS credits and dissemination activities as well as change of environment on the form below. After the second year of study, the student is expected to have accumulated 25-30 ECTS credits and to have completed most, preferably all of the dissemination part. Normally, the change of environment will also have taken place before the end of the second year.

For the second evaluation, the principal supervisor must again write a detailed statement about the project's status in relation to the PhD plan and send it to the doctoral school administration with a copy to the PhD student. The student has two weeks to submit any comments on the principal supervisor's statement.

If the project is proceeding according to the PhD plan and the student has met the expected sub-goals in relation to course participation, dissemination and change of research environment – or it can be explained why this is not the case – the head of the doctoral school will approve the evaluation at the end of the meeting. If there is uncertainty about whether the student's project is proceeding according to plan, the principal supervisor and the student are invited to a meeting to discuss the situation. The doctoral school submits the approved annual evaluation to the PhD student's head of department.

After the fifth semester, the PhD student submits the form below directly to the doctoral school administration. Coursework, dissemination and the change of environment are expected to have been completed by this time. Any ECTS credits obtained at a later date must, however, be reported to the doctoral school administration. All course activities must be listed in both Danish and English.
