Engineers in mechatronics make our world smarter – are you one of them?

As an Engineer in Mechatronics, you can create user-friendly and intelligent products that combine mechanics, electronics and embedded systems. It could be a robot hand that can pick a tomato or an artificial foot that can be used by athletes. Does it turn you on?

Make a quantum leap – become an engineer in mechatronics

Start your endeavour into the world of electrical, electronic and mechatronic engineering at SDU Sønderborg that has put together a truly unique education. With a BEng in Mechatronics, you will understand the connection between mechanics, electronics and software.

First-job guarantee

As a new engineering graduate from SDU Sønderborg, you are offered 6 months of employment if you haven’t landed your first job after you finished your BEng studies.

Reasons to study

That is why you should study...

  • You are guaranteed your first job once you have completed the degree
  • You will get a company-oriented education, with good career opportunities
  • You will learn to develop innovative solutions to specific problems
  • You have the opportunity to have an international career, which you can already start during your studies by taking an internship or by studying a semester abroad

 What will you learn?

You will work with the development of mechatronic products, i.e., intelligent products that include mechanical, electronic and software-based solutions such as drones and power steering.

  • The programme provides you with broad technical knowledge through basic courses in mechanics, electronics, programming, mathematics and physics.
  • You will get the opportunity to specialise via electives, your internship as well as in your graduation project.
  • You will be taught in mathematics, physics, mechanics, electronics, programming, power electronics, thermodynamics, mechanical engineering and much more.

How is the programme structured?

The programme consists of a combination of theoretical courses and project work. You will work a lot in project groups, where you and your fellow students will solve problems for companies through case-based work.

  • The first semester focuses on learning what mechatronics is and what it takes to develop mechatronics products.
  • In the second semester, you will gain an understanding of system components and their interactions.
  • The third semester builds on the knowledge you have gained about mechatronics and the development of mechatronic products.
  • In the fourth semester, you will gain basic knowledge about regulatory systems and how they are integrated into a product.
  • In the fifth semester, you can specialise in electives while strengthening your interdisciplinary skills in an interdisciplinary project (Experts in Teams). You can also study this semester abroad.
  • In the sixth semester, you will have a mandatory internship in a company. The internship can be spent in Denmark or abroad.

In the seventh and final semester, you must prepare a graduation project - often in cooperation with a company.

What can you become?

As a mechatronics engineer, you will typically start your career as a development engineer. After a few years, you will have the opportunity to combine technical work with management functions. You are also often part of development processes across organisations and involved in cooperation with external companies – nationally and internationally. You can also find employment as a customer advisor, consultant, educator or entrepreneur.

Want to continue your studies?

The BEng in Mechatronics is an independent, completed education. After the 3,5 years, you are a graduate engineer and ready to start your engineering career.

If you want to immerse yourself further, you can continue your studies and take a Master's degree in Mechatronics or Electronics.
