By Tomas Homburg, , 5/5/2026

Angela Chang has been appointed Professor of Global Health Economics and Metrics at the University of Southern Denmark.

Her research focuses on how health and disease vary across population groups and countries – and how the consequences of illness extend far beyond health alone. Her work addresses issues such as inequalities in life expectancy, causes of premature death, and how disease affects people’s finances, family life and quality of life.

A central objective is to develop better ways of measuring health – including in relation to non-fatal conditions. At the same time, she works on current challenges such as gender differences in health and the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations.

Her research is based on analyses of large datasets and international collaborations, including in Denmark, Uganda and Taiwan. It aims to generate new knowledge that can support decision-makers, organizations and healthcare systems.

The professorship will be anchored in a strong research environment in health economics

The professorship is anchored at DaCHE, the Danish Centre for Health Economics, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark.

Angela Chang comes from a position as associate professor and will continue to teach and supervise, including at PhD level within global health. She is also working to strengthen interdisciplinary education across fields such as epidemiology, economics and data science.

The appointment takes effect on 1 May 2026.
