Yousif Subhi appointed professor of ophthalmology at University of Southern Denmark
The professorship aims to strengthen research into patient-centred solutions and new technologies for the treatment of retinal diseases, contributing to development, quality, and knowledge within the field.
Yousif Subhi has been appointed professor of ophthalmology at the Department of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The professorship is established in collaboration with Hospital Sønderjylland and based in Sønderborg, and focuses on developing patient-centred solutions in ophthalmology, with a particular focus on retinal diseases.
The research aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases – conditions that affect vision and quality of life, and often require repeated visits to the ophthalmologist. The work aims to improve treatment pathways and enhance patients' quality of life through methods such as advanced imaging diagnostics, artificial intelligence, meta-analyses, and task reorganisation within the healthcare system.
Technological developments and healthcare reforms are creating new opportunities in the field of ophthalmology, but the goal remains to improve patient care. The professorship will therefore serve as a platform for clinical research into new technologies and healthcare organisation – with patients at the centre.
The professorship is anchored at the Department of Regional Health Research at SDU and Hospital Sønderjylland and based in Sønderborg. Yousif Subhi has previously held associate professorships at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark. The appointment took effect on 1 December 2025.
