The grants distributed by the foundation are based on the specially prioritised areas stipulated in the foundation's charter – see the links on this page.
As a special focus area, grants have been distributed since 2008 to research projects in the fields of arts and social sciences, i.e. areas of research dealing with the humanities and closely-related social sciences. Alongside invited applications, the foundation also supports collective and individual projects, the latter typically in the form of postdoc projects.
