Lecturer of the Year: Steven Breunig

The title of 2026 Lecturer of the Year is awarded to Associate Professor Steven Breunig from the Faculty of Humanities.

Steven has been a local and international role model for the development of language education in the humanities with a focus on relevance and employability.

He has successfully created a strong sense of engagement and maintained high academic standards in his teaching, while encouraging his students to engage in critical reflection, for instance in relation to academic rigour. Testimonials from students and external examiners describe a lecturer with exceptional interpersonal skills who manages to inspire participation in a safe and engaging teaching and learning environment.

There is no doubt that Steven is a pioneer when it comes to exploring and rethinking
what a teaching space should be able to do. He has been a driving force for change
across different groups of colleagues, and is described as a key role model
for innovation in teaching in English and the classical humanities. Steven demonstrates that
course development is an ongoing process.
