CORI – Centre for Orthopaedic Research and Innovation (Slagelse and Næstved)

Research areas

CORI conducts research across a broad range of subspecialties. In Slagelse, the focus is particularly on trauma and hand surgery, while in Næstved, research primarily covers arthroplasty, sports surgery, and foot surgery.

The department’s overall vision is to support research across all subspecialties through strong interdisciplinary collaboration with other professional groups, medical specialties, the primary sector, municipalities, and both national and international partners. Research is carried out by staff from a variety of professional backgrounds and at different stages of their careers, with an emphasis on including all those who wish to contribute to the development of orthopaedic surgery for the benefit of patients.

Projects and units

Current research spans a wide field and includes, among other areas:

  • The use of robotic surgery and learning curves in knee arthroplasty
  • Stem cells for promoting tissue regeneration in orthopaedic surgical procedures
  • Optimisation of various surgical techniques and treatment methods, including wrist arthroplasty, Achilles tendon repair, external fixation, open fractures, and infected joints
  • Data collection and quality development in the treatment of pelvic fractures, including pre- and post-hospital pathways
  • Simulation-based training in the development of surgical skills, focusing on wrist fractures
  • Collaborative projects on topics such as delirium, repositioning of wrist fractures in the emergency department, wound care and compression, and pathway optimisation for patients with hip fractures
  • And more
