New Scandinavian Journal Seeks to Foster More Nuanced Conversations About Rural and Urban Life
A new Scandinavian academic journal has been launched. Samtal is a research-based journal focusing on society, place, and connectedness, with the ambition of creating space for reflection and nuance in discussions about the relationship between rural and urban areas.
Among those behind the journal is CLF researcher Tobias Gandrup, who serves on the editorial team alongside colleagues from Sweden and Norway. The journal emerged from a shared ambition to strengthen conversations about the changes shaping communities, rural areas, and cities across Scandinavia.
Samtal differs from many traditional academic journals by providing room not only for scholarly articles but also for essays and more reflective forms of writing. Its goal is to promote research that is both academically rigorous and accessible to a broader audience.
The journal is founded on the observation that debates on rural development, urbanisation, green transition, and societal change are often characterised by sharp divisions. Through Samtal, the editorial team hopes to create a forum for thoughtful and nuanced perspectives on the issues shaping our shared future.
The first issue is freely available online and features contributions from researchers and writers from across Scandinavia.
