The Research Unit conducts clinical research in skin diseases and allergic diseases, including anaphylaxis. Key focus areas are atopic dermatitis, hand eczema, allergic contact dermatitis, psoriasis, urticaria, angioedema including hereditary angioedema, skin cancer, mastocytosis and all types of allergy- from anaphylaxis (drug, foods, insects) to Type IV allergy.
We possess internationally recognized expertise in pediatric and adult allergy, contact dermatitis and occupational dermatology, atopic dermatitis, urticaria and angioedema, as well as mastocytosis and hereditary angioedema, for which the department holds national responsibility for diagnosis and treatment.
Rapidly developing focus areas include skin cancer with an emphasis on teledermatology and artificial intelligence, severe allergy to cancer chemotherapy and biological drugs, red meat allergy (alpha-gal allergy), severe food allergy and treatment, angioedema and endotypes, epidemiological studies on the development and course of eczema and allergy; and qualitative projects concerning quality of life and coping strategies among patients and relatives.
The Research Unit hosts the Elite Research Center ORCA (Odense Research Center for Anaphylaxis).
