Research at the Emergency Medicine Research Unit is organised into four main focus areas:

The Academy for Emergency Nursing, including:

  • Social aspects of nursing
  • Self-harm
  • Participatory design methods
  • Staff wellbeing and resilience

The Ultrasound Academy, including:

  • Point-of-care ultrasound for emergency diagnostics

Clinical research, including:

  • Randomised clinical trials
  • Vasopressor treatment for hypotensive patients in the emergency department
  • Risk stratification of acutely ill patients
  • Fluid therapy in the acute setting
  • Sepsis and post-acute recovery
  • Oxygen therapy for patients with COPD
  • Use of biomarkers in emergency care

Cross-sectoral research, including:

  • Acute incidents among nursing home residents
  • Collaboration with the prehospital system
  • Collaboration with municipal health services
  • Use and types of coercion in ambulance care
  • Evaluation of prehospital blood sampling
  • Evaluation of the emergency physician response car for nursing homes
  • Evaluation of the impact of the Odense Acute Team
