Topology optimisation of fluid flow and heat transfer problems

AMspecimens

Topology optimisation (TO) is a powerful tool that can both produce near production-ready geometry, when combined with additive manufacturing (AM).

Based on advanced simulations and the use of large scale computing, geometries can be generated with high performance and material savings, often based on non-intuitive design features that are automatically spawned.

Our research focuses on the optimisation of fluid flow and heat transfer problems, including examples such as: aerodynamics, microfluidic devices, continuous reactors, thermal management systems, and electronics cooling.

AM is leveraged both in prototyping, but also final production of advanced heat sink geometries in metals and microfluidic channel networks.
