Danish Centre for Rural Research - CLF

Summary of CLF Report 10/2011

This paper provides a brief overview of Statistics Denmark’s micro data on individuals and companies in Denmark. Data on individuals include demographic variables (e.g. residential address, age, sex, marital status), socio-economic variables (employment, income, level of education), housing conditions and workplace address. Company data include such variables as address, industry codes at various levels of classification, judicial form, number of employees, turnover, etc.

The data set is a municipal version of a Social Accounting Matrix. Section 2 provides examples of topics and relationships that may be analyzed using this data. These include geographical differences in socio-economic status and their relationship with employment or housing conditions, commuting patterns and commuting distances, localization decisions and their bearing on financial performance, and a wide range of other topics relevant to rural studies.

It is an important proviso that information on individuals or individual companies must be kept confidential. For example, geographical units (cells) should include at least 1,000 individuals.
