How do conditions during pregnancy and the first months of life affect a person’s health and wellbeing throughout childhood? Researchers are now investigating this question by following a large group of Greenlandic children from birth into adolescence.

Every day, 45 young people start using a nicotine product
Brand-new calculations show that 45 young people start using tobacco or a nicotine product such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches or snus every day. At the same time, 250,000 young people want to quit using nicotine.

Young men have the most positive view of their bodies
Young men have a more positive relationship with their bodies than young women, while people with other gender identities report the lowest level of body appreciation. This is shown by a new Danish study, which also examined whether two international questionnaires can be used to measure body appreciation among young people in Denmark.

Parents’ attitudes towards alcohol strongly influence young people’s drinking
Young people whose parents see drunkenness as a natural part of being young drink more than twice as much alcohol as other young people, according to a new report.

Nearly one in three children has a parent with a mental illness
Nearly one-third of children in the Capital Region of Denmark have at least one parent who has been diagnosed with or treated for a mental illness within the past five years, according to a new report. Although most of these children appear to be thriving and in good health, they are more likely to receive concerns from school health nurses regarding their well-being, development and health.

We want to promote children’s health – but risk taking time away from free play
We want children to be more physically active and to thrive. That is why we design and evaluate programmes aimed at promoting health and well-being in kindergartens. But in our efforts to improve children's health, we risk overlooking something fundamental: children's own play. This is the finding of a new study from the National Institute of Public Health.

Fewer young people use cannabis than 25 years ago
While cannabis use among adults in Denmark has remained stable over the past 25 years, the trend is different among young people. Today, a considerably smaller proportion of 16-24-year-olds use cannabis compared to in 2000.
