Welcome to our information page about the study start for the faculty's student associations
As experienced students in our student associations, you play a central role during the study start and in our efforts to promote a positive study environment.
Here you will find our Study Start Handbook with guidelines and practical information for carrying out activities. We hope that the site can help you in planning your activities.
Study start activities must not center around alcohol.
No events should encourage students to consume alcohol, either directly or through activities or games that involve or encourage alcohol consumption (eg, prizes in the form of alcohol or competitions involving alcohol consumption).
Alcohol should not be part of activities that take place before 4 p.m.
For any activity with alcohol, the organizing group must have sobriety guards to deal with unforeseen situations.
The faculty grant may not be used to finance alcohol (see the 'Finance' section for further information).
No user fee may be charged for participation in the introduction week's activities from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Week 35)
There may be a small co-payment to cover the costs of voluntary, social activities that take place after 4 p.m.
We recommend that both tutors and new students take out full-time accident and liability insurance, as students at SDU are not covered by the institution's insurance. In the event of damage to other people's property or persons, the student himself/herself or via their individual insurance must pay for the compensation. In the same way, the student's personal full-time accident insurance covers if he himself/she herself is injured.
We encourage all student associations at SDU to set up an SDU domain email. An SDU domain email is a secure communication channel that complies with the applicable regulations. You can create a SDU domain email by contacting studenterorg@sdu.dk.
All students at SDU are expected to help create a safe and good study environment. SDU has a common code of conduct that describes the desired manner of dealing. See SDU's common code of conduct.
New students should not be exposed to activities that could potentially appear transgressive or offensive. The study start must accommodate diversity in all its forms. As a student association, you are responsible for organizing activities in which all new students can participate, regardless of background and differences.
If situations with border-crossing behavior arise, you can find help at MitSDU, where you can read more about who to contact, both if you experience it yourself or if you witness it. Read more about cross-border behaviour.
The intro program for new students is planned by the Student Administration and the Student Guidance Service at BSS. The study start consists of How to Uni (online study start course in itslearning), 3 intro days on Campus in week 35 and different semester activities during the first semester.
You can arrange an intro trip/overnight trip for the new students.
You ensure that the trip contributes to the new students' integration into the study and complies with the principles for the study start:
- Alcohol should not be part of activities that take place before 4 p.m.
- Start of studies activities must not focus on alcohol.
- For any activity with alcohol, the organizing group must have sobriety guards to deal with unforeseen situations.
- All activities must accommodate diversity in all its forms. New students should be able to participate, regardless of background and differences.
If there is a violation of rules of order or an accident on the trip that requires emergency medical attention or the calling of the police, ambulance or fire service, the faculty's co-ordinator for the study start must be informed of the course of events as soon as possible and at the latest after returning home.
It is permitted to charge a participant payment of up to DKK 350 for participation in an intro trip/overnight trip.
In principle, all communication regarding the study start between SDU and the new students takes place through SDUmail or the study start pages on MySDU. Immediately after admission, new students receive a welcome email informing them that all necessary information will be available at MySDU. The study administration is responsible for updating and maintaining the study start pages.
We have the option of linking to your association's own webpages, but it is crucial that the content is updated and maintained. All study start activities (before 1september) should appear on the study start pages at MySDU, as this creates security for the new students and gives them clear expectations of what is planned for them.

External parties must not have a decisive influence on study start activities.
New students must not experience pressure for membership in a trade union, social security fund or other organisations.
There must be a clear separation between commercial marketing by external parties and SDU/the Faculty as an institution.
External parties do not have access to the official study start program.
