New Research Project to Investigate PTSD Among Danish Firefighters

How prevalent is PTSD among Danish firefighters, and what impact do the critical incidents they encounter in their operational work have?

This is the focus of a new research project led by the Department of Occupational Medicine at Odense University Hospital. The project, which is co-led by the Centre’s guest researcher Jesper Pihl-Thingvad, aims to map the prevalence of PTSD, sickness absence, social support, barriers to help-seeking, and the relationship between critical incidents and mental health problems among Danish firefighters. The project will also examine potential differences between professional and volunteer firefighters. The research has been awarded nearly DKK 2.3 million in funding.
