POLIMA is very happy to announce that Toke Marstrand Pontoppidan Lindhard has started as a new POLIMA PhD student. Toke is a talented student coming from Aarhus University, where he obtained his BSc and MSc degrees and completed his MSc thesis under the supervision of Anne E. B. Nielsen.

Toke has a strong background in theoretical physics. Throughout his studies, he focused on various fundamental and theoretical aspects of physics. During his Master’s degree, he participated in an exchange program at Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, where he had the opportunity to learn from leading scientists  from CERN. In his master’s, he focused on topological quantum matter through a project on anyons and his master’s thesis on Chern insulators. In the thesis, he performed large-scale simulations of edge-state injection schemes and co-developed a new method for projective measurements in many-body systems that scales more efficiently than previous approaches. This strong interest in topological matter and theoretical physics led him to join POLIMA.

In his PhD Toke will work with theory advancements of polaritons and how they can be generated through inelastic electron tunnelling. Especially of interest is examining graphene in van der Waals heterostructures. He will investigate fundamental light–matter interactions in these nanostructures to explore ways of exploiting them for polariton-mediated events. At POLIMA he will be supervised by Assist. Prof. P. André D. Gonçalves. The overarching goal of the project is to advance our understanding of nanoscale light–matter interactions and polariton-enhanced phenomena in both conventional and emerging quantum nanostructures. Toke’s PhD is funded by Assist. Prof. P. André D. Gonçalves’ Villum Young Investigator grant.
