SPP-11 Tokyo

A flagship conference in Nanophotonics

By Eduardo Dias, , 6/12/2025

POLIMA was well-represented at the SPP-11 international conference in Tokyo, a flagship conference in Nanophotonics. Initially focused on plasmons in noble metal nanostructures, this conference --now in its 11th edition-- increasingly branches out into broader forefront topics in nanoscale light-matter interactions, thus providing an important platform upon which to present and discuss ongoing research activities at POLIMA by engaging with world-renowned experts in the field.

Center leader N. Asger Mortensen had the honor to present an invited talk showcasing POLIMA's efforts in the field, which was furthered by contributed talks by Line Jelver and Joel Cox. Nikolaos Kyvelos and Eduardo Dias both received a travel grant from the Thomas B. Thriges Foundation, thanks to which they were able to present their research efforts in a stimulating poster session.

Nikolaos Kyvelos additionally attended the SPP11 School, which took place in Wako, where pioneers in the field of nanophotonics gave instructive lectures in an informal atmosphere. During the summer school, attendees had the opportunity to visit the RIKEN Nishina Center and see up close the world's most powerful ring cyclotron.

The SPP conference convenes every 2 years, and the next edition will be hosted by renowned researchers at EPFL, Switzerland, in 2027.
