NEW CHAIR

Eske Willerslev, internationally acclaimed DNA researcher and evolutionary geneticist, becomes DIAS Chair of Science

Professor Willerslev is renowned for his groundbreaking work in molecular anthropology, paleontology, and ecology, and was recently awarded the Albert Einstein World Award of Science.

As Director of CAEG – the Centre for Ancient Environmental Genomics at the University of Copenhagen and Professor at both the University of Cambridge and University of Bremen, Eske Willerslev has made extraordinary contributions to his field. He has received more than 21 prestigious awards and recognitions for his pioneering research, most recently the 2024 Albert Einstein World Award of Science and the 2023 Balzan Prize for the Evolution of Humankind. Eske Willerslev is also a Foreign Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences in the USA.

On his new affiliation with DIAS, Professor Willerslev states:

 - "I am honored to serve as the Chair of DIAS. DIAS embodies excellence in research, providing a platform for outstanding scientists to exchange ideas and insights."

Sten Rynning, Director of the Danish Institute for Advanced Study, shares the enthusiasm about Professor Willerslev’s new affiliation:
