New PhD project investigates weather as a pathway to climate formation
A new interdisciplinary PhD project connects STEM, climate education and the subject Danish based on something we all encounter every day: the weather.
The weather is felt on the body, it is described in literature, it is measured in the natural sciences, and it connects everyday experiences with the major changes in the climate.
In the PhD project Weather-based climate formation in primary school: Climate education between Danish and STEM subjects, Rasmus Lund Nielsen investigates how the weather can become a common focal point for climate education across the school's subjects.
The project is located in the intersection between the Danish subject, STEM education and climate education. It will both contribute to research and create knowledge that can have an impact on teaching practice in primary and lower secondary school.
The team of supervisors includes Associate Professor Michael Paulsen from CUHRE, Professor Connie Svabo from FNUG and LxD and Associate Professor Dorte Eggersen from VIA. The collaboration strengthens the link between research in ecoliteracy, education, experience and learning environments.
The project does not only ask what students need to know about the climate. It also examines how they can learn to sense, interpret, describe and understand the weather phenomena through which climate change manifests itself.
