LAVIN
LAVIN - Longitudinal Study of Knowledge Ecology in NAFA (Natural Science Academy) aims to investigate and understand how knowledge is created, embedded, and shared within the science education professional learning communities in the NAFA teacher education program over an extended period.
The LAVIN project is developed based on the description of NAFA in the academy's own materials and in the framework provided by CESE for the project.
Project Purpose
The purpose of the project is to investigate the potential for knowledge flow and capacity building within science education professional learning communities in the NAFA teacher education program, and how these contribute to a knowledge cycle throughout the teacher education chain.
The study aims to document and understand the knowledge sharing that occurs within the program.
Background and Context
The LAVIN project builds on preliminary research conducted by CESE, particularly on results from a review of recent literature on professional learning communities (PLCs) within science education networks in teacher education. This review, conducted by researchers from FNUG in 2022, resulted in the report "Professional Learning Communities - A Research Overview (2018-2021)". Based on the results of this review, the LAVIN project focuses on NAFA’s professional learning communities as a knowledge ecology with the question:
How is a national knowledge ecology of science education professional learning communities (in NAFA) constructed in the teacher education sector?
Project Leadership and Team
The project is led by Associate Professor Thomas R.S. Albrechtsen, from UC Syd and Professor Connie Svabo, head of Centre for Research in Science Education and Communication (FNUG) at University og Southern Denmark (SDU). Other project participants include project employee Karina Kiær, PhD, a part-time cand. pæd. at SDU, and Ph.D. student Tina Maria Brinks, both under the leadership of Connie Svabo.
