Geo og Bio Science Center South

Geo & Bio Science Center South is a bridging project supported by Region of Southern Denmark and the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The project offers free science education programs for students from 5th grade to 3rd year of upper secondary school, all taking place in the nature of South Funen.

The aim of the project is to make science education more tangible and relevant by moving it out of the classroom and into nature.

FNUG contributes with qualitative and quantitative follow-up research in connection with the project, exploring children's and young people's experiences of nature and science, and examining how learning changes when it is moved from the classroom to the natural environment.

The follow-up research consists of four phases:

  • Developing observation keys
  • Developing interview guides and questionnaires for primary and secondary education, respectively
  • Collecting and processing data
  • Summarizing phase

In the follow-up research project, Ph.D. fellow Katrine Bergkvist Borch works with a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods (mixed methods) under the supervision of Professor Connie Svabo, Head of Centre for Research in Science Education and Communication, University of Southern Denmark.
