Caroline Kennedy-Pipe to join DIAS

We are excited to announce that Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe from the University of Loughborough, UK, will be joining us as a DIAS Visiting Fellow between August and September 2021

Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe will be a part of ‘The Climate Change and War’ project led by DIAS Fellows, Dr. James Rogers and Dr. Carolin Löscher. Their project explores the long history and ‘Big Data’ of climate change and human conflict to identify potentially correlation between climate extremes and periods of human conflict or cooperation.

Our ambition is to engage with the world’s leading scholars on climate change and international security. By Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe joining DIAS as a visiting fellow, we are recognising that ambition. Caroline’s extensive international policy experience and pioneering academic work on Arctic (in)security will be a welcome and valued addition to our Climate Change and War project and the excellence of the collaborative research we produce.

Dr. James Rogers

The Guardian lists Caroline Kennedy-Pipe as one of the UK’s leading scholars of war and currently Caroline works on Arctic Security, Russia and the High North. She was a Specialist Advisor to the UK House of Commons Defence Committee, and regularly advises governments and militaries on Arctic security within the context of global climate change. Caroline has also been an adviser to NATO Strategic Foresights, the MOD’s DCDC, and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Polar Regions.

We are looking forward to welcome Caroline Kennedy-Pipe at DIAS. Together we will work on the interconnection between climate change and conflicts or wars. As an expert on Arctic security, Caroline will provide important insights into the geopolitical future of the Arctic as the region strongest affected by climate change.
