DIAS Chairs appointed Knight of The Order of Dannebrog

Congratulations to our chairs Professor Carsten Rahbek and Professor Don Canfield who have both been appointed as Knight of the Order of Dannebrog by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. The order is given to outstanding citizens of the Danish state for contributions to science, art, business, civil and military service.

We would also like to congratulate our external chair Professor Minik Rosing who has been honoured by receiving the Knight’s Cross of First Class of the Order of Dannebrog.

Professor Don Canfield is Chair of Science and Director of NordCEE at the University of Southern Denmark. Canfield receives the honour for using the study of modern microbes and microbial ecosystems to understand the evolution of Earth’s surface chemistry and biology through time. Read more

Professor Carsten Rahbek is External Chair of Science and Director of Center for Macroecology, Evolution and Climate and one of the initiators of the new GLOBE Institute at the University of Copenhagen. The honour is given by the Danish Royal House for Rahbek’s many years of research in the diversity of life on Earth based on both ecological and evolutionary principles. Read more

Professor Minik Rosing is External Chair of Science, Professor at the Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark and Professor at Geological Museum and Natural History Museum at the University of Copenhagen. Rosing was initially appointed Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 2010 and has now received the Knight’s Cross of First Class of the Order of Dannebrog for his excellent research within geology. Read more
