Thomas Paster is a political scientist working on business-politics relations, welfare states, industrial relations, and corporate taxation.

His current research focuses on three topics: (a) the transnational regulation of corporate tax avoidance; (b) the abolition of inheritance taxes in some countries (with Michael B. Klitgaard); and (c) state support for collective bargaining (with Dennie Oude Nijhuis and Max Kiecker).

His earlier work investigated the role of employer interests in welfare state politics and in industrial relations and focused, in particular, on Germany and Austria.

He works primarily with qualitative data and methods, notably comparative case studies and methods of comparative-historical analysis.
