DIAS Explorations

A framework for collaborative research and seed funding

Where Ideas Begin

At DIAS, many new research ideas begin long before they become formal projects.

They start in conversations between scholars from different fields. In questions that do not yet have a name. In early collaborations that need time and space to develop.

A Framework for Early Development

DIAS Explorations is the framework that supports this early phase.

It provides seed funding and practical support for new research initiatives that emerge from within the DIAS community. The goal is to make it easier for researchers to test ideas, build collaborations, and explore new directions before committing to larger, long-term projects.

From Thought to Format

Some explorations may grow into sustained investigations of complex societal challenges - the kind of interdisciplinary efforts previously developed under our Wicked Problems initiative. Others may take the form of workshops, conferences, pilot studies, or new research networks. What matters is not the format, but the impulse: curiosity-driven collaboration across disciplines.

By keeping the structure flexible and accessible, DIAS Explorations ensures that promising ideas are not lost simply because they are still taking shape. It allows researchers to move quickly when momentum arises - and gives new collaborations the opportunity to find their most meaningful form.

In this way, DIAS Explorations helps sustain what defines DIAS: a place where curiosity is taken seriously, and where bold ideas are given room to grow.
