Danish Institute for Advanced Study

DIAS is SDU's interdisciplinary center for elite research, which across all five Faculties focusses on state of the art research. With this, DIAS is organized as an independent unit, but also as a meeting point for bright minds from all fields.

The purpose of DIAS is both to inspire and to create the framework for world class, groundbreaking research.

The Director for DIAS is Marianne Holmer.

Research talents from all over the world

Our most prominent Professors at SDU are affiliated as DIAS Chairs, and our most talented Assistant Professors are affiliated as Fellows.

There is a highly focus on talent development of younger researchers. In this way DIAS can attract the most accomplished from all over the world by offering them conditions that most young researchers can only dream of.

Our Fellows in DIAS teach less than the average and spend less time on administrative work. In return they need to be curious, have epoch-making ideas and do what they do best – research.

Weekly lectures and annual Nobel talks

DIAS’ model for future interdisciplinary collaboration has already had great positive attention. Every Wednesday during the semester we organize lectureswhere experienced capacities from home and abroad, and younger researchers, share their research and ideas in the DIAS House. This can also be followed on live stream and seen on YouTube.

Besides the weekly lectures, DIAS has held some grand Nobel Colloquium, amoing others Professor Samuel Ting who received the Nobel prize in Physics in 1976, and Professor Bengt Holmström who received the Nobel prize in Economy in 2016.

The lectures are open for all interested people.

The DIAS House

The new, impressive building was ready for use in spring 2020. Here researchers from every field spends their time in the interdisciplinary environment.

The building holds 3545 m2 with an architecture that supports the vision of making room for groundbreaking ideas and fostering new collaborations with the bright and welcoming rooms.

On DIAS' own website you can meet the people behind, read news from the research world and get an overview of future lectures and events.
