PROJECT CREATeS: Circumpolar Resilience, Engagement, and Action Though Story

  • Project Manager: Allison Crawford, PhD, MD, Centre of Addiction and Mental Health and University of Toronto

Project CREATeS is a project under Arctic Council’s Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG). The project works to tackle the high suicide rates and mental health problems in the circumpolar Arctic. The project brings more youth voices from Arctic States into the conversation. Hearing their experiences and ideas provides an opportunity for meaningful action to improve youth and community wellness.

Purpose

Project CREATeS aims to create an opportunity and methods for community engagement and knowledge translation to support the suicide prevention and mental wellness efforts of the Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) in the Arctic States. The project also aims to sustain the circumpolar network that has been established through the Arctic Council so that we can continue to collaborate and share best practices in suicide prevention. In addition, broaden the circumpolar network to include more community members and youth.

Method

Indigenous youth from across the Arctic have worked together to create digital stories, which has provided an opportunity to learn about the perspective of young people and their ideas for action. The stories can be found on the project website
