EVENT
[CANCELLED] Genomics luminary Dr. Eric Green to visit DIAS on 5th February
How might the next breakthroughs in genomics revolutionise medicine, agriculture, and even our understanding of life? Join Dr. Eric Green at DIAS for a peek into the fascinating future of genomics research.
UPDATE 24-01-2025:
Due to a recently imposed travel and public speaking freeze for U.S. government officials, Dr. Eric Green is unable to visit SDU on 5th February.
Dr. Green deeply appreciates the effort and planning that went into arranging his visit, talk, and meetings. He shares our disappointment in having to postpone these plans. He has assured us that he will reach out to reschedule once the freeze is lifted and his travel and speaking engagements can resume.
The Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) is set to host a distinguished guest from the forefront of genomics research, when Dr. Eric Green, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) delivers the highly anticipated talk Creating the Fourth Chapter of Genomics in the DIAS auditorium at SDU.
The event is hosted by Vijay Tiwari, DIAS Chair of Health Sciences and Professor of Genome Biology at SDU’s Department of Molecular Medicine.
A pivotal figure in modern genomics
Dr. Green is a pivotal figure in modern genomics and has been at the helm of some of the most transformative initiatives in the field. Multiple groundbreaking advancements, including efforts to integrate genomics into routine medical care and to address global challenges through genomic science, have seen the light of day during his tenure as Director of the NHGRI. Here, Dr. Green has championed the application of genomics to solve pressing health issues and fostered international collaborations aimed at broadening the reach of genomic medicine.
Dr. Green was also a key contributor to the Human Genome Project, which mapped and sequenced the human genome, heralding a new era in biomedical research.
Participate in the event
In Creating the Fourth Chapter of Genomics, Dr. Green delves into the past, present, and future of genomics, as well as the implications advancements in genomics research have for science and society. The talk is aimed at anyone curious to learn about the potential and prospects of genomics research, and it does not require prior knowledge about genomics to attend or to enjoy.
Date: 5th February, 2025

What is genomics
Genomics is the study of all the DNA in an organism—its genome—which contains the 'instructions for life' and help us uncover how genes interact, influence traits, and contribute to health or disease.
