Language Teaching

The purpose of the Language Teaching Research Network is to strengthen practice-oriented language teaching research and establish a foundation for new, effective research and development collaborations across language teaching research environments at a vocational and university level.

The projects aim to strengthen language teaching in primary and lower secondary schools, including both foreign languages, Danish as a second language and heritage mother tongues. A key principle for the focus area is working across language subjects in school. The focus area aims to establish research and development projects, research dissemination, and debates that contribute to the following three goals:

  • Strengthening the position and development of language subjects in schools
  • Strengthening the education of language teachers
  • Creating political awareness about the importance of languages for students and schools

The focus area addresses current challenges in the field of foreign languages, such as the decreasing number of students choosing language subjects, the lack of graduates with strong language skills, problematic issues related to the fields of Danish as a second language and mother tongue teaching, as well as the general development of language teaching across languages and subjects.
