Digital Democracy visionary Claes de Vreese joins DIAS

At the crossroads of media, politics, and technology, Professor de Vreese brings a distinctive interdisciplinary lens to his work.

We are proud to announce that Claes Holger de Vreese, Director of SDU’s Digital Democracy Center, has recently been appointed DIAS Chair of Business and Social Sciences.

In addition to leading SDU’s premier research hub for digital democracy, De Vreese is Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Society at the University of Amsterdam and Chair of Political Communication at ASCoR, the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. His accolades include serving as President of the International Communication Association (ICA), Editor-in-Chief of Political Communication, and founding Director of the Center for Politics and Communication.

Professor De Vreese’s research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, media, and democracy. His work explores how digital technologies, especially AI and algorithms, are reshaping public communication, political engagement, and democratic processes.  At the crossroads of media, politics, and technology, he brings an interdisciplinary lens to his work - perfectly in tune with DIAS’s commitment to open exchange and bold ideas, unbound by discipline.

- “Being part of DIAS is a unique opportunity to work in an inspiring, interdisciplinary setting. I genuinely believe that most big challenges for society and science need to be addressed in interdisciplinary collaborations,” says Claes de Vreese about his new role at DIAS.

A warm welcome to DIAS to Claes de Vreese.  We look forward to following his contributions to our community.
