Breast cancer screening among persons with functional disabilities

Breast cancer is the most common cancer form among women. All women between 50 and 69 years are offered mammography every second year. There is no larger Danish studies on cancer screening among persons with functional disabilities,  but one Danish study shows that women with cerebral palsy have lower participation in cervical cancer screening and other studies have shown that fewer women with chronical diseases are screened for breast cancer and older American studies have shown that women with functional disabilities have lower participation in screening.

Purpose

The aim of the project is to evaluate how many women with physical, cognitive and psychological functional disabilities follow the recommended breast cancer screening program and characterize women with functional disabilities that participate and do not participate.

Method

The project is based on linkage between social and health registers including “Dansk Kvalitetsdatabase for Mammografiscreening”.
