Building scalable continuous variable cluster state quantum technologies

Illustration of quantum infrastructure

 Continuous variable quantum technologies

In recent years, continuous variable (CV) quantum technologies have significantly influenced the fields of quantum communication, sensing, and computing. Moreover, the recent generation and manipulation of CV cluster states, comprising thousands of entangled modes, have made the CV platform a promising candidate for achieving full scalability in the future.

Unfolding the full potential

Together with an international consortium of quantum technologists, photonic integrators, mathematicians, computer scientists and quantum information theorists from eight institutes and organisations including DTU (bigQ - Center for Macroscopic Quantum States) and several leading institutions in Europe (Palacky University Olomouc, Heidelberg University, Q.ant GmbH, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Sorbonne Université, Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique SA) - we are working towards unfolding the full potential of CV cluster state technology by making conceptual and technical breakthroughs in three different directions:

  1. develop scalable optical platforms for massive CV cluster states by using advanced topological tools
  2. develop new measurement induced CV quantum computational and networking protocols and algorithms with certified quantum advantage and real-life applications
  3. develop novel quantum error-correcting CV protocols and technologies that facilitate the realisation of practical fault-tolerant quantum technologies for quantum computing, communication and sensing with true scalability potential.
