Former guest professors

The following scholars have visited as guest professors. (Beware that external links to their home institutions may become outdated)

M.H. Ilias’ tenure as Guest Professor at the Centre for Contemporary Middle East started in the fall 2017 till spring 2018.  Ilias is Professor of Gulf Studies at India-Arab Cultural Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Prior to joining Jamia, he taught Middle Eastern Studies at the Kunjali Marakkar Centre for West Asian Studies, University of Calicut, Kerala.

Professor Annabelle Boettcher https://annabellebottcher.jimdo.com/ from the Institute of Islamic Studies at the Free University of Berlin and Charité Universitaetsklinik in Berlin visited the Centre from fall 2016 till summer 2017.
She taught the course ‘The Conflict in Syria and the Social Media’. http://fagbesk.sam.sdu.dk/study/fagbasen/fagbesk.shtml?fag_id=36694&lang=uk 
She continues to work at the Center for Mellemøst-studier at SDU as a professor on ‘Cultural Negotiation Processes by Muslim Migrant Patients in Clinical Settings in Denmark’ financed by the Welfare Innovation Fund of the Fyrtårn Initiative with colleagues from Public Health / Migrant Clinic at SDU, the Charité University Hospital in Berlin and the Free University Berlin.

Professor Pınar Bilgin from Department of International Relations at Bilkent University visited the Centre from fall 2015 till summer 2016. She taught the course 'Securing the Middle East: Critical Perspectives'.

Professor Steffen Wippel from Institut für Wirtschaftswissenschaft Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, visited the Centre from fall 2014 til summer 2015. He taught the courses Special study areas  Regionalisations and Regionalisms across the Middle East and North Africa: Spatial Perspectives on Social and Economic Interrelations samt Globalizing Cities of the Middle East: Urban Development and Economic Dimensions.

Professor Mervat Hatem from the Department of Political Science, College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University, visited the Centre from the fall of 2013 till summer 2014. She taught the course 'Gender and Feminism in the Middle East'.  

Professor Nasim Barham from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts at the University of Jordan, visited our Centre from the fall of 2011 till summer 2012. He taught the course ‘Economics and Natural Resources in the Middle East’.

Professor Necati Polat from the Department of International Relations, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey visited for fall 2010 to summer 2011. He taught the courses 'Muslims and Modernity: Contemporary Thought’ and ‘Turkey and the European Regime of Human Rights’.

Professor Gulshan Dietl from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India visited for the spring term 2010. She taught the course Iran in the Global Context

Maura Conway from the School of Law and Government at the Dublin City University, Ireland visited for the fall term 2009

Senior Lecturer Francesco Cavatorta from the School of Law and Government, Dublin City University, Ireland visited from fall 2008 to summer 2009. He taught the courses Politics and International Politics in the Middle East and Contemporary Issues in Middle East politics
