Visual data science is the practice of translating data-related features into visual representations to make data easier for the human brain to understand and derive insights from.

Visualizations facilitate the detection of patterns, trends, and outliers in large data sets, and visual data analysis is one of the steps in the data science process, which states that once data has been collected, processed, and modeled, it must be visualized in order to draw conclusions.

For this reason, the Centre for Visual Data Science at SDU sees itself as an important player in interdisciplinary projects where visualizations are fundamental components of data analysis for knowledge generation.
