Niels Bjerre-Poulsen is Associate Professor at the Center for American Studies, University of Southern Denmark (2010-). His research is primarily focused on American political culture, U.S. foreign relations, and the American presidency. He holds a PhD degree in American History from University of California, Santa Barbara (1993), and MA in History from University of Copenhagen (1984), and a BA in American Studies, University of Copenhagen (1986). Prior to joining the faculty at University of Southern Denmark, Niels Bjerre-Poulsen was an Associate Professor at the Copenhagen Business School (1988-2010), where he was also served as the Director of the Center for the Study of the Americas.
 
In the spring of 2019, Bjerre-Poulsen was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Marist College and at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. From 2005-2007, he served as President of the Nordic Association for American Studies. In 2015 Bjerre-Poulsen was awarded University of Southern Denmark’s prize for research dissemination, and in 2017, his book Vietnamkrigen – en International Historie 1945- 1975 (2015) was awarded the Sven Henningsen Prize by the Danish Society for Contemporary History. Since 1998, he has appeared more than 1400 times in Danish television and radio programs to discuss American politics, elections, and cultural issues.
