Course: English Grammar in Context

The aim of this course is to help you sharpen your writing skills in English for academic purposes. The focus is on:

  • Optimizing sentence structure and word order
  • Avoiding wordiness
  • English grammar and vocabulary

By actively participating in the course, you will gain:

  • Tips on how to make your writing clear and concise
  • Strategies for reflecting on your own writing style
  • Practice with editing your own and others' texts
  • Increased confidence and competence in writing scientific texts in English

The course comprises interactive lectures, group work, and individual writing practice. Topics include sentence types, subject-verb agreement, use of active and passive voice, British versus American English, and academic vocabulary and style.

As preparation for the course, you will need to:

  1. Find a text of your own that you can work on during the course
  2. Do an online assignment on ‘Nouns and Verbs’ to revise basic grammar (It will take about 1 hour)
  3. Watch a 5-minute video about Sentence types.

You gain course credits by completing the pre-course assignments and participating actively in all course days.
