Cancer patients fear one word more than anyone else: relapse. After initial improvement and shrinkage of a tumor, it often happens that the cancer returns and does no longer respond to treatment. In these cases, the tumor calls have adapted to the chemotherapeutics and developed what is referred to as drug resistance. This marks an unfortunate turn of event for the patient as the range of effective drugs is limited and loss of function by one or more reduces the chance of recovery.
