NAVADA (Scientific Literacy in Early Childhood Education)

The NAVADA project seeks to strengthen scientific literacy among children aged 0–6 through curiosity, nature experiences, and a focus on sustainability. The project is based at University College Copenhagen, and FNUG contributes as host institution, with Connie Svabo serving on the advisory board and as principal supervisor for the project’s two PhD projects.

One of the PhD projects focuses on mathematics in early childhood education. PhD fellow Søren Krogh Hansen investigates how the development of an institutional mathematical space in early childhood settings influences science pedagogical play and learning environments, and how it supports children’s scientific literacy. His research aims to generate new knowledge about how educators can identify, establish, and constitute a nature oriented institutional space for mathematical attention and for mathematical formation in Danish early childhood institutions.
