Become a fellow at the centre

fellows, nhc

What does it mean to be a fellow at the centre?

As a fellow at the Nordic Humanities Centre (NHC), you work across the humanities disciplines on a specific societal challenge. The team of researchers consists of 6 senior researchers. 3 from SDU and 3 from UCPH. Different subjects and disciplines must be represented in the group. Fellows are fully workload reduced for one year from department and teaching obligations.

Fellows must have the desire and courage to use their expertise in a new and explorative way to answer a societal challenge of their choice. Through joint discussions, joint reading, workshops, writing residencies and other activities, fellows work together on a range of outputs: research publications, reports, policy briefs, dissemination activities, etc.

Bridge building to civil society

It is a goal of the centre to build a bridge between humanities research and civil society and to create impact through humanistic perspectives. It is therefore important that the 6 fellows are willing to build this bridge through close collaboration with civil society, cultural institutions, politicians, etc. One year is not much in terms of establishing a new interdisciplinary research collaboration, establishing new practice partnerships, external dissemination through various channels and, of course, creating new research. Therefore, the centre also expects fellows to work on the relay project both before and after the fellowship year. The workload reduction relay year should therefore be seen as a catalyst year, sowing the seeds for new ideas, projects, collaborations and ultimately creating a deeper societal impact.

Find fellows for your research idea

At NHC, you'll work together for a year with 6 researchers from two faculties of Humanities. But how do you find like-minded researchers at another university - and even in a different disciplinary field?

Start by orientating yourself in the research fields of the two faculties through their websites, where you can see which research groups, research clusters and research centres exist.

Once you know the research fields but want to know more, we suggest you reach out to Head of Centre Anders Engberg-Pedersen (engberg@sdu.dk). The centre, in collaboration with the two Dean's offices, will be happy to help you find the perfect match. Anders has offices at both UCPH and SDU, so write or call to arrange a meeting.

Become a researcher at the centre

Do you have a research project that fits with the centre's current research theme or are you researching challenge-driven humanities research as a phenomenon? Then you have the opportunity to become a fellow at the centre.

We offer office space in Odense or Copenhagen for a period of time and offer you the opportunity to participate in our meetings and study circles together with the centre's fellows.

How do you get involved? Write an email or call Head of Centre Anders Engberg-Pedersen (engberg@sdu.dk / 53440771).
