Maritime Health and Technology

MHT Research

Our mission is also to develop human-centred solutions that enhance safety, identify hazards, reduce risks, and support the safe implementation of new technologies in the maritime sector.

Four key research areas

01 — GREEN TRANSITION AND NEW TECHNOLOGY

02 — MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHOSOCIAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

How do we ensure that people remain at the centre of the green transition?

How do we create a safe and healthy working life at sea?

New fuels, batteries, electrification, and digitalisation are changing work, hazards, and risks on board vessels. MHT investigates the implications for work processes, competencies, the work environment, and safety.

A healthy work environment is essential for a well-functioning and productive maritime workforce. MHT investigates how stress, poor well-being, bullying, harassment, and violence can be prevented.

03 — HUMAN FACTORS AND SAFETY

04 — HEALTH AND RETENTION

How do we create safe work processes around new technologies?

How do we prevent illness and support long and healthy working lives in the maritime sector?

MHT investigates the interaction between people, technology, and organisations to support the safe development and implementation of new technologies and work processes.

MHT generates knowledge about disease, health risks, and prevention with the aim of strengthening health, work ability, and retention.
