Dr. Hannes Cools is a post-doctoral researcher both at the Digital Democracy Center and at the AI, Media, and Democracy Lab at the University of Amsterdam. He holds a doctoral degree on AI and news from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Leuven and a MA degree in International Politics of the University of Ghent in Belgium. His research interests include AI, computational journalism, and news recommender systems. At DDC, Hannes is working on the project “AI in the newsroom” where he will focus on the development and the implementation of news personalization tools.
He is also a research affiliate at the prestigious Columbia Journalism School in New York City and a research affiliate at the Culture, Communication and Technology (CCT) Program of Georgetown University in Washington DC.
