Medical risk analysis and medical risk communication

The research focuses on:

  • How various measures of risk and benefit are understood and best
    communicated
  • How the communication is perceived among doctors and lay people
  • The impact of risk communication on doctors’ diagnosis and treatment strategy and patients’ acceptance of and persistence to an agreed treatment plan.

The applied methods vary from register-based cohort studies, internet-based surveys to clinical intervention studies.

Ongoing projects:

  • Can interactive Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) improve decision quality and concordance in chronic disease?
  • Risk communication in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease: Importance of information on patients’ choice, persistence and satisfaction with treatment with cholesterol-lowering medication
  • Development and validation of scales and questionnaires to monitor and evaluate UV exposure as a scientific tool for disseminating risk messages targeting skin cancer prevention
  • How does the risk perception of doctors and patients correlate and how does it affect compliance?
  • Long-term impact of interactive online weight loss advice in general practice (LIVA) - a randomized controlled trial
  • Determinants for acceptance of preventive treatment against cardiovascular
    diseases.
