QM Masterclass: Mingsheng Ying - Model Checking Quantum Systems: An Introduction

How do we verify systems when the very rules of reality begin to change? This masterclass sets out on a journey from the familiar terrain of classical model checking into the strange and rapidly evolving world of quantum systems. We begin with the essential tools that have made automated verification possible in classical computing, before venturing into the principles of quantum computing and the dynamics of quantum Markov models. Ultimately, we arrive at the frontier: algorithmic techniques for model checking quantum Markov chains, where uncertainty, superposition, and probability intertwine in entirely new ways.

Aimed audience

This masterclass is primarily aimed at Master's and PhD students in quantum computing, but is also relevant for graduates in mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, and data science with an interest in quantum computing.

In this series of lectures, we start from the basics of classical model checking techniques. Then, we introduce the basic ideas of quantum computation and quantum Markov models. Finally, we will introduce the algorithms for model checking quantum Markov chains.

There is no participant fee.
Included in the event is Monday-Friday lunch + 2 x coffee/tea (mornings/afternoons), as well as a networking dinner Monday evening.

Directions
To Odense: You can fly to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) or Billund Airport (BLL) both have 1½ to 2 hours travel time to Odense. From CPH there is a train option directly from the airport to Odense and from BLL all travel to Odense is with min. 1 transfer (bus + train). You can find the connections at: https://rejseplanen.dk/

To SDU: from Odense train station (20 min. by light rail ‘Letbane’ / 5 km): the interval between the rides is 7,5 min. during rush hours and 15 min.  the rest of the day. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket automat at Odense train station & online https://webshop.fynbus.dk/ (choose from “Odense Banegaard” to “SDU”).

At SDU: download the app 'SDU Maps' or search SDU Maps online and enter 0100. After admittance to the event you will also receive a pdf-version of the SDU map via email.

Meet the researcher

Professor Mingsheng Ying is internationally recognised for his distinctive scientific contributions and professional affiliations within the quantum computing community. His work spans quantum computation, programming languages, and AI foundations, and he serves as Co‑Editor‑in‑Chief of ACM Transactions on Quantum Computing.
