iTAPP

Patient survey

Four times during the study period, a questionnaire will be sent to all patients affiliated with the participating practices. The questionnaire will be sent to the patients via e-Boks and answered digitally. E-Boks is the formal communication channel between the Danish government and Danish citizens. The patient’s responses are anonymous. The first questionnaire was distributed in March 2023.
If patients have any questions about the questionnaire, they are welcome to contact the research group at itapp@sdu.dk.
Below, we have complied the most frequently asked questions with corresponding answers related to the survey.

FAQ regarding the patient survey

Who receives the questionnaire?
All patients over the age of 18 affiliated with the participating practices in the iTAPP study. All patients receive the questionnaire, regardless of whether they have been in contact with their doctor during the study period or not.

Why has the patient received a questionnaire?
As part of the iTAPP study, we want to investigate the effectiveness of the 15-method in reducing alcohol consumption among patients who exceed the Danish Health Authority’s recommended alcohol limits. The questionnaire assesses the patient’s lifestyle and overall health. Via the questionnaire responses, we will measure lifestyle and habit changes (e.g., their alcohol consumption), along with any changes in perceived overall health.

What are the patients being asked?
The questionnaire contains questions about general lifestyle and perceived physical and mental health. The questions relate to diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and health-related quality of life. Additionally, the questions inquire whether patients have attempted to make any lifestyle changes in the past year.

Are the questionnaire responses anonymous?
Yes. The patient is anonymous when answering the questionnaire. The questionnaires are sent using social security numbers (CPR numbers) to the patient’s e-Boks, but the responses are processed at clinic level. This means that the patient’s response is not linked to the CPR number but to the clinic to which the patient belongs.

Is the patient obliged to answer?
No. It is voluntary whether the patient wishes to answer the questionnaire.

Will the patient’s own doctor have access to the patient’s responses?
No. The responses to the questionnaire are completely confidential, and only the research group behind the iTAPP study has access to the responses.

Why has the patient received the same questionnaire multiple times?
The questionnaire will be distributed 4 times in total during the study period, at approximately 3–4-month intervals. The questionnaire contains the same questions each time. The purpose of asking the same questions multiple times is to monitor patient lifestyle and health during the study period.

Can the questionnaire only be answered electronically?
No. If the patient wishes to answer the questionnaire in a paper version, they can contact the research group (see contact information), stating their name and address. We will then send the patient a printed version of the questionnaire with a pre-stamped envelope.
